Get a boot tray. They're cheap plastic but they have a 1/2 lip all the way around. The water that splashes will mostly land within the tray and you can just wipe/rinse the tray as needed.

There are definately dogs out there that are picky enough not to want to share a water bowl. Did you always have two before?
