Shooting the perfect action movie is usually a big-budget affair with stunts, special effects, a stellar cast and outstanding film score. The four movies in the Pirates Of The Caribbean series, for example, were reportedly produced on a combined budget of nearly £425million.
The 30 young film-makers invited to take part in the Relentless Short Stories film competition were handed just £4,500 each and told to make a no-holds-barred mini movie focusing on the worlds of extreme sports (skateboarding, surfing, snow, BMX), hardcore music (rock, metal, dance, punk, drum’n’bass) and motor sport.
The selection has now been whittled down to stunning presentations from directors in Britain, Ireland and Germany, all produced on the shoestring budget. The budding directors are competing for a £10,000 prize and the opportunity to be commissioned for a new film project in 2012.
Dave Depares, 32, from London is one of the film-makers who has made the final cut. His short film, The Pit, chronicles the experiences of gig-goers intent on braving mosh pits and crowd-surfing.

Last year, my first year at college, I wasn’t surprised that my newly-purchased food and drinks were depleting faster than I was consuming them. The only suspect was my roomate (duh). My mini - fridge didn’t come with a lock , nor a loop to fit a lock through. How would I make a locking device for it?
The only thing I’ve thought of was chaining it all up…and that’s not sleek or creative at all! Maybe if I could superglue something to the door and the body, and lock them together?
