Akron School Board Candidate Charged With Child Enticement

A candidate for the Akron Public Schools Board of Education has been charged with criminal child enticement, after he tried to get a young teen to become his "secret friend," Akron police said.

John David Goode, 36, is a former candidate for the Akron City Council who works shelving books at the Kenmore branch of the Summit County Public Library.

Akron Police Department Lt. Rick Edwards said Goode is accused of trying to entice a 13-year-old girl he spotted inside the library.

"She was walking home a couple blocks away when she was confronted by a male in a car," Edwards said.

According to the police report, Goode was supposed to work until 8:30 p.m. last Monday, but after the girl left the library, Goode told a co-worker he wasn't feeling well and also left.
