Great Money Saver for Road Trip Vacations
I ordered this cooler at the last moment for our eight day vacation on the road. we kept the cooler plugged in the car when driving and plugged in the hotel room at night. The fact that you do not need to use ice means that the cooler is about half the size that it would need to be with ice and...

Refrigerator energy consumption has been the subject of regulatory attention in the US for some thirty years. Federal product standards, energy labels, and a variety of programs to get consumers to discard their existing refrigerators sooner and buy new, more energy efficient ones have transformed the refrigerator landscape and changed how many of us think about refrigerators. The results of these policies are celebrated as a successful model for how to combine regulatory objectives and consumer preferences in pursuit of environmental outcomes where everyone wins. Yet per capita refrigerator energy consumption today remains (much) higher in the US than anywhere else, in part because energy efficiency overlooks the ways behavior, habit, emulation, social norms, advertising, and energy efficiency policies themselves shape energy consumption patterns.
Power to the people
Company Bay couple Michael and Edith Laba have taken control of their living environment. They generate almost all their own electricity, get most of their hot water from the sun and are always warm and cosy in their super-insulated home. Allison Rudd visited the house they say they never want to leave.
Michael and Edith Laba consider the weather more than most people.
Activities that use a lot of electricity, such as vacuuming, washing and ironing, are programmed for sunny or breezy days, when their solar panels and two small wind turbines will be generating.
A forecast of misty, sunless days is enough to amend their plans to less energy-intensive chores.
While they are connected to mains electricity and have a back-up gas hot-water boiler, the couple like to use as much self-generated energy as possible.
Mrs Laba, a French Canadian from a country with an abundance of electricity, says it "never crossed her mind" that electricity was something people might have to ration.
Reasons to Choose a 12 Bottle Wine Fridge
Wine refrigerators vary in their benefits, but if you don’t maintain a large stash of wine then a smaller wine fridge is probably more than adequate for your wine bottles. If you have no more than 12 bottles of wine in your home at any given time then a 12 bottle wine fridge could prove to be your best choice as it would be cheaper than larger wine fridges. Here are a few reasons why you might want to choose a 12 bottle wine fridge. Maybe you don’t normally carry wine in the house, but you have an upcoming party or business dinner at which wine will be served. The reason that you are stressing about it is because you don’t want to have to place the bottles of wine in a bucket of ice and would prefer to chill your wine another way. One possibly way would be to purchase a 12 bottle wine fridge. The 12 bottle wine fridge would not take up too much space in your home and you could place it anywhere – kitchen, cellar, basement, etc....
What to Consider When Buying a Compact Refrigerator
It is not a question that the compact refrigerator has become one of the necessities we need, especially in offices, college dorms, hotel guestrooms and even in some of the rooms in your house other than your kitchen. If you are about to buy your own compact refrigerator, do you know what factors to consider? If not, then let these considerations guide you into finding the best compact refrigerator that will suit all your needs.
A very important factor that you should consider is the energy consumption of the compact refrigerator. When buying a small refrigerator, it doesn't mean that this will be using less electricity. In fact, there are some that will consume more than what the bigger refrigerators use. You need to be wise then and ask questions from the store where you are going to purchase the compact refrigerator so that you will be able to save energy. This in turn will be giving you some benefits to your electricity bill...
