Utility to ramp up free energy audit program
Appalachian Power Co.'s effort to help homeowners save money by making their dwellings more energy efficient is ramping up.
Phil Moye, Appalachian Power spokesman, said the company has been promoting the program with direct-mail advertisements. He said television advertisements will be aired in the Beckley and Bluefield markets starting this month. Later, the campaign will be extended to the Kanawha Valley.
The primary focus of the program is a free home energy audit. It is designed to help homeowners find simple ways to reduce energy use. Following an inspection, participating homeowners receive a printed report that estimates how much they could save over a year by adopting certain changes; a cost estimate of repairs; and an explanation of the rebates available when the recommended work is done.
Audit participants also receive free energy-saving products, including compact fluorescent light bulbs, pipe wraps, faucet aerators, a low-flow showerhead, LED nightlights and a refrigerator thermometer.
